Lake Highland Historical Association - Oldest Continous
Residence in Dallas County?

This distinction may very well go to the home known as “Moss Haven” purchased by Mr. and Mrs. Harry S. Moss in 1942. An article in The Dallas Morning News on November 24, 1957 states, “The center section of the home may be nearly 100 years old, wings are newer”. The Mosses, accessed their “country” home from “a winding road entered from Greenville Avenue just beyond Vickery” approximately between current day Walnut Hill and Royal Lane. The large barns behind the home (Moss Haven Elementary today) housed registered Hereford cattle and prize winning horses. The surrounding land was developed as Moss Farm Estates in the 1970’s. After Mr. Moss’ death, Moss Haven fell into disrepair and was in danger of destruction until it was purchased and lovingly restored by its current owners. The Moss’ philanthropic spirit lives on today in many ways including Harry S. Moss Park, ensuring future generations will enjoy its incredible natural beauty.
