Legend has it that Belle Starr often stopped at the Collins Farm (northeast corner of Plano and LBJ) on her way from McKinney to Oak Cliff to visit her lover. The Collins brothers, notorious in their own right, supposedly buried bags of gold around the farm supposedly stolen from a train heist. Old timers say the gold continued to be uncovered well into the 1920’s! The farm served as a Travelers Inn, probably because of the spring on the property that was known to always flow, even in the midst of severe drought. Settlers would travel from miles around to fill their water barrels. Dr. Hartin and his family owned the farm until recently, and many LH residents have fond memories of the miniature horses that were raised by the family.
